Have you done an inspection on your vehicle? Including:

  • A bounce test: Push down on the front end of the vehicle, does it push down slow? How does it rebound? Is there any hesitation going up or down?
  • Does your front end nose dive when applying the brakes?
  • Does your vehicle squat when accelerating? Realistically, only vehicles with high horsepower should do this regularly.
  • Uneven tire wear or cupping is another indicator that your struts may be going bad
  • Is there physical damage to the struts? Look for dents, leaking, torn rubber, etc..

If after your inspection you are experiencing none of the above symptoms, then it’s time to focus on your front crossmember/subframe. Why you ask? Because Kia/Hyundai released a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) explaining that in states where it snows, and salt is used on the roads, the salt and water can adhere/stick to the subframe causing it to rust. If this isn’t fixed immediately, the provisions for your control arm can completely rust out causing the control arm to separate from the vehicle, and potentially causing a crash.

Symptoms for this:

  • Front end noise
  • Tire misalignment
  • Steering pull
  • Vibrations when braking

If you are experiencing any of the above it is important to have you vehicle inspected.
